Steve Coplan is a Senior Analyst covering identity and access management for The 451 Group's Enterprise Security Practice. He focuses on identity issues at the intersection between networks, infrastructure software (particularly virtualization) and mobility.

Before joining The 451 Group at its inception in April 2000, Mr. Coplan covered technology and economic trends for European financial newswire AFX News as the San Francisco Bureau Chief. While at AFX, he established and fine-tuned the service's framework for coverage of US technology companies and established its first office on the US West Coast in 1998. Mr. Coplan rejoined The 451 Group after serving as director of product marketing at Whale Communications, a secure remote-access vendor acquired by Microsoft. At Whale, he was responsible for implementing the product marketing strategy for a corporate repositioning, and he worked on post-acquisition strategy.

Mr. Coplan has a degree in Linguistics and Zulu from the University of Cape Town, where he graduated with honors, and an MA in Journalism from Northwestern University's Medill School of Journalism.
