John Abbott is Co-Founder and Chief Analyst at The 451 Group, where he covers systems, storage and software infrastructure. For more than 25 years he has pioneered specialist technology coverage in such areas as Unix, supercomputing, system architecture, software development and storage. He has written many Special Reports, including those on storage virtualization and blade servers - the first comprehensive surveys of either subject to be published. Mr Abbott began writing about technology in 1984, contributing to publications including Computing, Computer Weekly, The Financial Times and The Times. Shahriar (Shar) Allen is the Vice President, Managed Network Systems with responsibility for hardware / software solutions in the managed network solutions team for Panduit. Prior to joining Panduit, Mr. Allen spent about five years at Avid Technologies in various senior leadership roles in the Software, Engineering and Consultative Services Groups. Before Avid, he was Director of Engineering in 3Com's Video and Home Appliances division. His experience also spans technology management roles at Motorola and Inland Steel. Mr. Allen received his BS in Electrical Engineering from the Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago.

Mark Ascolese is Chairman and Chief Executive Officer at EDSA. He has more than 30 years experience in executive-level operations, marketing, and sales management, much of it in the electrical and electronics field. He has held top-level posts with industry leaders such as General Electric, Eaton, and Powerware. He is a leading figure in the electrical power industry, having co-founded the Washington DC-based Critical Power Coalition, and served on numerous industry and corporate boards. Mr Ascolese is a graduate of the University of Louisville, and of General Electric's Crotonville Executive Management Training program and Duke University's Fuqua School of Executive Education.

Victor Avelar is a Senior Research Analyst at APC by Schneider Electric's Data Center Science Center. He is responsible for data center design and operations research, and consults with clients on risk assessment and design practices to optimize the availability and efficiency of their data center environments. Mr. Avelar holds a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and an MBA from Babson College. He is a member of AFCOM and the American Society for Quality.

Ken Baker, Datacenter Infrastructure Technologist, Hewlett Packard (HP), is a recognized industry expert on power, cooling and datacenter infrastructure. He is an evangelist for the latest in energy conservation and efficiency technologies for customers worldwide. He is a frequent keynote speaker at various datacenter engineering events, such as the Uptime, 7 x 24 Exchange, and Datacenter Dynamics conferences. Baker joined Compaq in 1982 and was responsible for the formation of a number of organizations, and has held numerous other Engineering and Marketing positions within HP/Compaq, including program and product management for a variety of hardware and software products.

Henry Baltazar is a Storage Analyst at The 451 Group, focusing on data protection and storage software technologies. Prior to joining The 451 Group, Mr. Baltazar spent nearly nine years working as a technical analyst for eWeek Labs, where he covered storage, server hardware and network operating systems. At eWeek Labs, he initiated the testing coverage of various technologies, including data replication, clustering, virtual tape libraries, storage virtualization, SAN management, NAS, iSCSI and email archiving. In addition, Mr. Baltazar was a member of eWeek's editorial board and provided content for the magazine's enterprise storage blog. Mr. Baltazar holds a BA in Environmental Sciences from the University of California, Berkeley.

Rob Bernard is Chief Environmental Strategist for Microsoft. He works with product groups to create technology that helps customers minimize their impact on the environment, and assures environmentally responsible business practices at Microsoft. He also works with partners in industry on global environmental issues. At Microsoft, Mr Bernard has served in leadership roles ranging from marketing to business and technical management. He also worked on Microsoft's project with the Clinton Foundation focused on measuring and tracking greenhouse gas emissions for the C40 cities. Mr Bernard holds a BA in English Literature from Columbia University and an MBA from the Wharton School of Business.

Dr Paolo Bertoldi is Principal Administrator at the European Commission Directorate General Joint Research Centre, Institute for Environment and Sustainability (Ispra, Italy), where he manages research for energy efficiency policy. He is also in charge of negotiated and long-term agreements with industry and tertiary sectors and the GreenLight, Motor Challenge, and Standby Initiative programs on behalf of the Directorate General Energy and Transport (DG TREN). Previously he was Administrator with the European Commission in charge of programs for the rational use of energy in end-use equipment, buildings and industry. Dr Bertoldi holds a Doctorate in Electrical Engineering from the University of Padova (Italy).

Mark Bramfitt is a Principal at Bramfitt Consulting LLC, where he helps utility industries focus on energy efficiency and demand-side management. He previously worked at Pacific Gas and Electric (PG&E) Company, where he designed programs and services to help PG&E's customers manage their energy use in the high tech, biotech and healthcare industries. Mr Bramfitt also led the Utility IT Energy Efficiency Coalition, promoting the adoption of PG&E's program and service models by more than forty-five utilities throughout North America and is an elected Director of the Valley of the Moon Water District and Chair of the Sonoma Valley Groundwater Basin Advisory Panel.

Kenneth G. Brill is the Founder of the Uptime Institute and the Site Uptime Network in North America and EMEA. Many data center industry innovations over the last 25 years trace back to his original concepts including dual power, the industry's Tier system for evaluating and classifying data center facility performance, and IT/facility energy efficiency and productivity measurement. Mr. Brill's research into the Economic Meltdown of Moore's Law, Data Center Productivity and Energy Efficiency, and IT's declining economics form core knowledge needed by corporate leaders charged with business performance, profitability, and sustainability.

Josef Brunner is Chief Architect and Co-founder of Joulex. He has a record of starting and growing companies, including JouleX in 2009 which developed the first version of the JouleX Energy Manager. He founded his first company at 16, which developed one of the first unified threat management systems, and sold it to Azlan (now Techdata). In 2004, Mr Brunner founded Bastille Networks, which focused on proactive security prevention and monitoring, and sold its main assets to Integralis (now part of NPP Telecom) in 2007. He subsequently joined Enterasys (now part of Siemens Enterprise Networks) as director of Security Sales, CEE, Middle East and APAC.

He was appointed in January 2010, and will oversee the authority's operations and energy efficiency deployment and services programs. He will continue to manage the development of the Saratoga Technology + Energy Park (STEP), a knowledge-based clean-energy technology park located in Malta, New York. Mr Callender has worked at NYSERDA for more than 21 years. He holds a Masters degree from the State University of New York at Albany, and a Bachelors degree from American University in Washington DC.

His 25 years of construction experience enables him to provide meaningful and accurate insight to a project. Mr Carnemark's development of a new data center energy/equipment monitoring program is changing the way Facility Managers make strategic decisions on their equipment usage. The program allows Managers to view and manage their data center's energy use from their desktop, in real time, so they can react to upcoming issues and plan for future equipment purchases accordingly.

Bob Cashner is Senior Vice President of Corporate Properties with Wachovia, a Wells Fargo Company. As a relationship manager, Mr. Cashner and his team support the organization's Technology and Operations Group. Over the last decade, Mr. Cashner and the expanded team have worked diligently to help ensure high-resilience, cost-effective and environmentally friendly operations for its mission critical facilities including fault-tolerant data centers and trading floors. Mr. Cashner received his Bachelor's degree from Purdue University and his Master's from the University of Rochester. He also completed Duke University's Fuqua School of Business Senior Management Development Program.

Rachel Chalmers is Research Director of Infrastructure Management at The 451 Group and has led the Group's infrastructure software practice since its debut in April 2000. She pioneered coverage on SOA, distributed application management, utility computing and open source software. Today she focuses on data center automation and server, desktop and application virtualization. She is lead author of many 451 Special Reports, including ‘'V' for Virtualization: Transforming the data center, driving MandA' (Dec 2006) and ‘Virtualization II: Desktops and applications are next' (Jun 2007). Ms Chalmers began covering the technology sector in 1995, when she helped launch Computer Week, and later PC Week Australia.

Emily Christopulos, President and Founder of GapHOG International, is pleased to lead the discussion on Airflow Utilization Efficiency (AUE) in data centers at the Uptime Institute Symposium. Ms. Christopulos is the inventor of GapHOG methods and products for increasing data center cooling efficiency and has worked in various capacities in the data center environment over the last six years.

As Interxion’s Director of Engineering (and formerly Vice President of its Datacenter Technology and Engineering Group), he supervised the design, build and upgrade of nearly 50,000m² of data center space in 22 locations in 12 countries. A founding member of the Uptime Institute, he is also a member of the European Commission DG Joint Research Committee on Sustainability and the European Data Centre Code of Conduct Metrics Group, and a contributor to The Green Grid’s Technical Forum.

Steve Coplan is a Senior Analyst covering identity and access management for The 451 Group’s Enterprise Security Practice. He focuses on identity issues at the intersection between networks, infrastructure software (particularly virtualization) and mobility. Mr. Coplan served as director of product marketing at Whale Communications, a secure remote-access vendor acquired by Microsoft. At Whale, he was responsible for implementing the product marketing strategy for a corporate repositioning. Mr. Coplan also covered technology and economic trends for European financial newswire AFX News as the San Francisco Bureau Chief. While at AFX, he established the service’s framework for coverage of US technology companies and established its first office on the US West Coast in 1998.

Daniel Costello is the Director for Datacenter Research and Engineering at Microsoft and is responsible for datacenter standards and technologies, datacenter technology roadmap, Generation 4 datacenter engineering, datacenter automation and integration with IT hardware, operating systems, and applications. Mr. Costello also works closely with Microsoft Research on proof of concept projects in support of the datacenter of the future and manages a team of facility engineers and service architects. Mr. Costello designed and built his first datacenter in 1995. He has a T. Eng in Electrical Engineering from the Institute of Technology of Dublin and is a member of the Institute of Engineers of Ireland.

Carl Cottuli is Vice President of Product Development and Services at Wright Line, and has more than 20 years experience in power, cooling and management standardization. He has launched professional and installation services in organizations around the world. Mr Cottuli has written a number of articles on green data center best practices, has presented webinars and has spoken at several conferences including: AFCOM, 7x24 and Interop - all on low cost, energy-efficient, data center management issues. He previously worked for American Power Conversion (APC), which provides network critical infrastructure solutions, and Russelectric, which manufactures power control and protection systems.

Jonathan Dickinson is a Senior Policy Advisor in the Office of Long-Term Planning and Sustainability for the City of New York. The office is responsible for the development and implementation of Mayor Bloomberg’s long-term sustainability plan, PlaNYC. His responsibilities include developing the City’s climate change policies, completing its annual greenhouse gas emissions inventories, and implementing strategies to increase its resilience to climate change. He was previously Deputy Director of the New York City Mayor’s Office of Environmental Coordination. Mr Dickinson holds a BA in English from Hobart College and a Master of Marine Affairs from the University of Rhode Island.

Mr. Dietrich has held positions responsible for large scale enterprise resource planning systems integration for IBM Global Services. He started his career in General Electric’s Information Management Leadership Program.

Gregg Dixon has led various sales, marketing, and business development efforts at EnerNOC and currently leads marketing efforts worldwide to utility and end-use customers. Mr. Dixon is primarily responsible for leading the development of EnerNOC’s go-to-market strategy, product and service development, and the execution of marketing mechanisms that accelerate profitable sales growth and brand recognition through creative and customer-driven insights. Prior to joining EnerNOC, Gregg was Vice President of Marketing and Sales for Hess Microgen, the leading provider of commercial on-site co-generation systems and services in the United States.
Andrew Dominey is Product Manager at 1E and has extensive experience with data center energy efficiency, server virtualization and Microsoft enterprise solutions. Since joining 1E in 2005, Mr Dominey has held numerous management roles. He served as a systems administrator for Cobweb Solutions where he monitored and maintained an expansive infrastructure serving more than 1,500 customers. Previously, he developed an in-depth understanding of large-scale server infrastructures as a field service engineer, and a 2nd- and 3rd-level engineer at World Class International.

Born in Chicago, Illinois, Mr Donovan is a graduate of Illinois Institute of Technology with a BS in Mechanical Engineering and an MBA in Industrial Management. Dan Draper joined Emerson Network Power in 2008 as Industry Marketing Manager dedicated to developing solutions and strategies which solve customer issues caused by growing Healthcare IT Infrastructures. Mr. Draper is currently focused on educating hospitals, resellers and consulting engineers on how the best practices in power, cooling and monitoring can be used to maximize and protect IT investments in hospitals, healthcare facilities and physician offices. Mr. Draper brings over 10 years of IT experience in strategy, pricing, marketing and product management through past roles with NCR Corporation and Teradata Corporation. John Drossos is Chief Executive Officer and Founder of CloudSite Development, LLC., a data center development and investment firm with offices in Dallas, TX and Beijing, China. CloudSite has designed a multi-tiered and energy efficient production data center product utilizing Kyoto Cooling ™, an air-to-air waterless cooling solution. The Company has plans to development approximately one million square feet of data hall space in China over the next three years. In addition to his responsibilities with Cloudsite Development, Mr. Drossos serves on the Board of Directors of AIM-TO, Inc.
dunn_david David Dunn is Senior Vice President of Marketing and Business Development for CoreSite. Mr. Dunn joined the company in 2004 and has led the company's marketing and business development activities since 2006. Prior to joining CoreSite, Mr. Dunn was a Senior Analyst at The Carlyle Group, where he played a role in managing several strategic projects as well as Carlyle's data center investments. Before joining The Carlyle Group, he was an Analyst at another private equity fund, JER Partners, where he evaluated acquisition opportunities and conducted due diligence on multiple real estate property types. Mr. Dunn graduated magna cum laude from The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania with a BS in Economics.

Dr Albert Esser is Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Albert Esser Consulting, which offers a variety of services in the technology sector and green IT. Until 2009, Dr Esser was Vice President, Power and Infrastructure Solutions at Dell, where he was responsible for its Infrastructure Product line and the global Power and Cooling Initiative. Before that he was Vice President Engineering of Eaton; and Vice President Technology, Fluid Power Group, Eaton. A published author, he has won numerous awards and holds 12 US patents. Andrew Fanara is the new Director of Sustainability for OSIsoft, and former Team Leader at Energy Star Product Specifications Development Group, Climate Protection Partnership Division, United States Environmental Protection Agency (US EPA). In his nearly 15 years of experience at the US EPA Energy Star Program, he worked closely with a variety of industry sector manufacturers and with policy makers globally trying to tackle the twin challenges of energy security and climate change by identifying products with superior energy efficiency and water savings. Mr Fanara is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin, Madison.

Farrell, Manager of Strategic and Sustainable Solutions with SAS Worldwide Marketing, has responsibility for SAS’ Sustainability Solutions and works with SAS customers around the world to understand best practices and solutions for managing their business with environmental responsibility in mind. Prior to joining SAS, Ms. Farrell was a senior consultant in the Deloitte Public Sector practice. In this capacity, she was a project manager for state-wide and county-wide systems implementations and was responsible for user acceptance testing, change management and training, and middleware technology selection.

Previously he served as Chief Information Officer at Versaware, an ePublishing company, and as a Director in the Department of Information Technology and Telecommunications of the City of NY. Kevin Flanagan is Vice President of CTI-Data Centre Operations at CGI Technology Infrastructure Management, which provides information technology and business process services. Mr Flanagan manages CGI’s data centres in Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal, Halifax and Saguenay; he is also responsible for Computer Operations and Production Control. He has been in IT since 1987 and is experienced in data center management, implementing efficient approaches to power conservation, and electromechanical improvements to provide significant savings in power consumption and cooling efficiency. Mr Flanagan is a Certified FM from the University of Toronto’s Engineering Department.

Tom Freeman is Managing Director and Co-Leader of the Global Mission Critical Solutions team of Jones Lang LaSalle Americas, Inc. where he is responsible for the firm’s critical facilities site selection practice. He has played an integral role in conducting data center industry studies, developing data center portfolio and research strategies, creating best practice tools and acquiring data center sites and facilities around the globe for his clients. Since 1998, Mr. Freeman has led Mission Critical Solutions projects for some of the world’s largest corporations including Microsoft, Sprint, Unisys, EDS, The Home Depot and VMware. Mr. Freeman graduated from Texas A&M University at Commerce with a BBA in Marketing and Economics and attended the Executive MBA program at Emory University.

Dr Carlos Garcia de la Noceda is Senior Progam Manager at the Data Center Business Unit, Deerns Consulting Engineers. For more than 20 years he has managed complex systems, services and solutions for government and enterprise customers in Europe and the US, as well as the design and execution of several large data centers. He also manages European data center operations for a large US data center operator.
