2010 Green Enterprise IT Award Judging Process

The Green Enterprise IT (GEIT) Awards judging process is designed to be independent, thorough, and fair.  GEIT applications are evaluated by a panel of expert judges selected by the Uptime Institute. To insure objective and independent evaluation, applications are reviewed via a double-blind process: judges do not know whose applications they review, and contestants do not know which judges reviewed their application. In addition, no judge is allowed to judge any Award category that includes applications from his or her own company. Judges review all completed applications. The Institute may transfer an application from the category in which it was submitted to a more appropriate category if necessary.

Applications are judged according to the five criteria and weighting factors listed below.

Evaluation Criteria Weighting Weighting,
Audacious Idea only
New Knowledge 25% 34%
Knowledge Transferability 20% 33%
Impact 25% 33%
Measurability 20% -
Audaciousness of Goal 10% -
Total 100% 100%

New Knowledge
To what extent does the improvement make an original and important contribution to knowledge about IT or data center energy efficiency?

Knowledge Transferability
Do the lessons learned reveal useful information to others implementing similar energy efficiency programs? Organizational and technology mistakes and successes are equally valuable.

Impact
To what extent are energy efficiency gains in the facility or organization converted into dollars and/or carbon reduction? What was this value relative to the organization's size, or what was possible?

Measurability
Were plausible and quantifiable metrics used to support the project and measure its success? Does the application explain the metrics adequately and provide good data to back up its claims?

Audaciousness of Goal
How much organizational stretch was required to achieve the goal? Audaciousness is relative to the organization -- how much stretch was required relative to where the organization started?
