TUTORIAL 6: Site Tour and Post-Tour Debriefing of Vantage Data Centers' New Santa Clara Facility

Can We Connect the Dots Between LEED Platinum Certification and Data Center Availability, Reliability and Energy Efficiency/Effectiveness?

SME Tour and Discussion Leader: Phil Collerton, Director, Thirlmere Solutions

Monday, May 11

Room 212 - Meet at Registration Desk, Mission City Ballroom Pre-Function for transport to facility
1:00-5:00 pm

The scope of Vantage Data Centers' 18-acre Santa Clara campus project is ambitious, including dozens of mechanical, physical and electrical innovations aimed at reducing data center capital and operating costs and extending the life of the buildings to the benefit of its tenants. The massive project is likely to be the largest LEED Platinum candidate data center build in the US, and is intended for enterprise tenants requiring more data center capacity, but who may not have the capital, time or appetite for risk required to build it themselves. A senior-most Uptime Institute subject matter expert will lead this tour and the post-tour commentary and discussion of the first completed Vantage Santa Clara campus data center facility (building V3), which employs primary chilled water supplemented with airside economization for 40,000 sq. ft. of raised floor critical environment. The campus also has a 37-mW (IT load) dual-feed power substation, which Vantage owns, dark fiber and access to more than 30 internet and telecommunications carriers. V3, built in under six months and completed in January this year, claims a PUE of 1.2 under full operational load and a 1.29 PUE under full chiller load. There has been a great deal of concern, discussion, and work done within the data center industry on the applicability of USGBC LEED certification for Data Centers. Participants on this tour will be able to connect at least some of the dots between LEED certification and the data center design, build and operational requirements of high availability, reliability, resiliency, and energy efficiency/effectiveness. All Vantage Data Center tour registrants will be required to have a valid driver's license or passport identification with them for security sign-in at the V3 Facility and will be bused from the Santa Clara Convention Center to the nearby campus and the V3 facility.

Participants in Tutorial 6 should convene at the Registration Desk at 1:00pm for transport to the site.
