John Stanley

John Stanley is a Research Analyst for Eco-Efficient IT at The 451 Group, specializing in data center efficiency. Prior to joining 451 Group, Mr. Stanley was a project manager and researcher at the Uptime Institute, where he worked with Institute founder Ken Brill on data center efficiency publications and original research. He has also prepared Institute contributions to industry input for U.S. Department of Energy data center efficiency initiatives. In 2010, Mr. Stanley served as Judge and Assistant Chair of the Judges' panel for the Uptime Institute Green Enterprise IT Awards.

Outside of his work with The 451 Group, Mr. Stanley was a contributing author to the Environmental Protection Agency's 2007 Report to Congress on Server and Data Center Energy Efficiency and co-author (with Jonathan Koomey) of The Science of Measurement: Improving Data Center Performance with Continuous Monitoring and Measurement of Site Infrastructure.

Prior to focusing on data centers, Mr. Stanley worked in the energy efficiency consulting practice at Rocky Mountain Institute, helping private sector clients improve environmental performance and profitability via energy efficient designs and practices. He holds an MS degree from the Energy and Resources Group at the University of California, Berkeley and a BS in physics from North Carolina State University.
